As a Bible (also book of books), Judaism and Christianity each refer to their own collections of writings that are documents of their faith as holy writings. These are two compilations of "books" (Greek: Biblia) from the cultural area of ​​the Levante and the Middle East, which were created over the course of around 1200 years and were first canonized by Jews, then also by Christians.

The writings of the Bible have a normative character for the practice of religion both in Judaism and Christianity. In Orthodox Judaism, Tora is considered to be handed over by God Moses and the Jewish people on the mountain Sinai, in Christianity the old and New Testament of God are. Islam also recognizes Die Bibel and with it its two predecessor religions as the valid, but partly falsified revelation of Allah.
